Famous American Sandwiches

This American classic generally comes with fries. In 1903, Good Housekeeping Everyday Cook Book produced its oldest recipe.

Toasted sandwich bread is topped with cooked chicken or ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, & mayonnaise.

Like grilled cheese, you can use different proteins, sauces, & veggies. However, the classic recipe is here.

If you didn't grow up eating grilled cheeses, start now! The French croque-monsieur, British toastie, & Italian panini are identical to this favourite American sandwich.

What makes it different? Processed cheese. After making processed cheese since 1914, Kraft offered singles to Americans in 1949.

Cheese sandwiches were already a "thing," especially for the Allied Armed Forces' affordable staple. Many individuals are adding gourmet touches to the original, but you can stick to the essentials.

French Dips are not French. This hot American sandwich has thinly shaved roast beef, sautéed onions, Swiss or Provolone cheese, & a side of jus. The beef's cooking juices make the jus. Thrillist thinks it's located the French dip's originator.

We're pleased it exists. BLTs are the best simple sandwiches. Bacon, lettuce, & tomato pair well. These ingredients are piled on two toasted bread slices & served with or without mayonnaise (though it might be kind of on the dry side without).
